Gentle energy work for calm and balance

Reiki

Reiki is a gentle, energy-based practice that began in Japan. A practitioner places their hands on or near the body to encourage relaxation and a sense of balance.

What Reiki involves

During a session you rest, fully clothed, while the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above different parts of the body, usually following the main energy centres. Many people describe feeling warmth, deep calm or tingling.

Reiki can also be given at a distance. Practitioners trained to that level offer sessions where you rest in your own space at an agreed time.

What people seek Reiki for

  • Relaxation and relief from everyday stress
  • A sense of calm during a difficult period
  • Balance and wellbeing alongside a healthy routine
  • Learning Reiki to practise on themselves

How a session usually works

A session usually lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. The practitioner talks with you first about what you are hoping for, then gives the session while you rest. Reiki supports wellbeing alongside medical care and is not a substitute for it.

Common questions

What does a Reiki session feel like?

Most people feel deeply relaxed. Some notice warmth, tingling or lightness; others simply feel calm. Every session is different.

Can Reiki be done at a distance?

Yes. Many practitioners offer distance sessions at an agreed time, while you rest in your own space.

Does Reiki replace medical treatment?

No. Reiki is a complementary practice for relaxation and wellbeing. Always continue any medical treatment you are receiving.

How many sessions are usually needed?

It varies. Some people come for a single session to relax; others prefer a series. Your practitioner can suggest what suits you.
